Kayla began her career as a therapist in 2012 providing treatment in a private practice as a licensed Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-A). Later that year, she completed her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Lamar University. She has worked in private practice, home therapy, hospitals, rehab centers, and elementary schools.
She gained extensive understanding of the Individualized Education Plan, or IEP, while working in the public school system. She works closely with parents, teachers, and other therapy providers so that therapy is as effective as possible.
She has treated clients all of ages and has experience working with children with Autism, Intellectual Disability, Cerebral Palsy, and Down Syndrome. She has considerable experience in working with challenging behaviors. Her expertise includes assessment and treatment of language disorders, motor speech disorders including childhood apraxia of speech and dysarthria, articulation disorders, phonological disorders, alternative communication methods, and fluency.
She believes that effective therapy requires looking at the big picture and treating each child as whole. She uses games, positive reinforcement, and laughter to help her clients achieve their goals.
